Welcome to Tuscan Club University’s
Fair Lending School 2.0
Letter From The Instructor
Welcome!
Thank you for enrolling in Tuscan Club University’s Fair Lending School 2.0. That’s right - this is version 2.0! Our first version of the school was so popular that we have invested months into making it even better. All of the videos have been remade, the content has been updated, the manual has been reorganized, and this is the best version of the school yet. You are about to embark on a journey that will cover fair lending risks throughout the entire lifecycle of a loan, and some risks that are outside of that cycle. We cover a lot of information, so take your time as you go through this course. Whether you are new to compliance or a seasoned professional, there will be many new concepts and risks that you maybe never considered as part of your review.
As you likely know by now, the course is set up into two main parts: video instruction and the fair lending manual. While you can choose any order for your review, we highly recommend watching the video module first and then read the corresponding section of the manual before moving on to the next module. There are some times where we go into more detail in the videos, and there are times where we may cover different topics in the manual. Use both resources to ensure you get all of the information we cover. Since we have completely overhauled the course, the videos and manual also may not always match when we teach some of the audit procedures. That’s okay. It gives you different perspectives. Use all of the resources you have available for the best learning experience.
You can decide on how and when you want to start your reviews. In some cases, it may make sense to review a particular area at your organization as you go through the course. Others may want to complete the entire course before you start reviews. One method is not necessarily better than the other. However, if you are like most compliance and audit professionals, your time is likely limited. In those cases, it might be best to complete the entire course so you learn about each of the fair lending risks we cover. At that point, you can decide what the higher risks are at your organization and focus your review time there.
Smaller and non-complex organizations can use our procedures to conduct all of your reviews. If you are a larger organization, have more complexity, or have HMDA data that you want to analyze, you may want to take your program a step further and look at software to help in your reviews. There are many software vendors out there, so you just need to find the one that best meets the needs of your organization. We highly recommend taking this additional step as it can not only make your life much easier, but you can take your analysis to new levels.
We are always looking to improve and add to the school. Fair Lending School 2.0 now has a new full Module 15 with video instruction specifically for Risk Assessments. In addition, we have totally upgraded our risk assessment tool, so make sure you download that for the module and complete it at your organization.
Finally, we want to briefly give you some expectations on how long this course takes. There are 12 hours of total video content. Yes, the manual seems intimidating at first, but there are well documented written procedures in there to help you do your reviews in the appendices. The educational content is only part of the manual. We have had students complete the entire course in only a few days, so do not think this will take months to complete. The average time to complete the course is usually only a few weeks doing it part-time. Most of the module videos are around 30-45 minutes in length and can easily be squeezed into your day. Modules 8 (Pricing) & 12 (Redlining) are longer, so plan ahead for those. If you are taking the FLE (hint, hint), none of the procedures within Appendix A or B are on the examination, only the general concepts in the manual are on the examination.
Thank you again for taking this journey with us. We hope you enjoy this learning experience and that you use what we cover in this school to strengthen not only your organization’s fair lending program, but also your entire Compliance Management System.
Sincerely,
Tory Haggerty, Founder – Tuscan Club University

Course Tools & Resources
Here are some resources that will help you. Make sure you download the Surname and Gender tool. You will need them for several modules. If your organization does not have a basic fair lending policy, feel free to use ours as a template. You can build off of this template or simply use it as is. A basic fair lending policy is better than no policy. Also make sure and download the risk assessment. Don’t start it yet! We will cover that in Module 15. Just save it for now.
Technology Issues?
If you are having problems viewing the video content, there are a couple things you can try. First, try and use a different browser type as that fixes some issues.
The main issue we have seen is your organization’s IT department block different websites, or they will not let you access video content. If you cannot view the videos, please first try logging into the site using a non-company device (such as your phone). If you are able to see the videos, it’s likely your organization has blocked our website. You can ask your IT department to unblock it. If that is not an option, you will have to use a non-company device to view the video content. If you still have issues, please e-mail us at support@tcuniversity.us and we will do our best to assist you but remember, we’re compliance people.
